New 5x7 Photo: American Traitor Benedict Arnold, General of the Continental Army

Description: victoria heilshorn studio - the best in History Title - American Traitor Benedict Arnold Description - Artistic rendition of Benedict Arnold, a General in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He is best known for betraying the United States forces and plotting to surrender the American fort at West Point to the British during the American Revolution. He is perhaps the most famous traitor in the history of the United States. Arnold distinguished himself as a hero of revolution early in the war through acts of cunning and bravery in the Capture of Fort Ticonderoga, the Invasion of Canada (1775), the Battle of Valcour Island in Lake Champlain in 1776, the battles of Danbury and Ridgefield in Connecticut (after which he was promoted to Major General), and the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. He was wounded several times. But in spite of his successes, he was passed over for promotion by the Continental Congress. Arnold also opposed the alliance with France. He became heavily indebted, and was accused of corruption. He also married a Loyalist girl, Peggy Shippen. Frustrated and disaffected, Arnold turned to treason. In September 1780, he formulated a plan. If he had succeeded, British forces would have controlled the Hudson River valley and split the colonies in half. The plot was thwarted, but Arnold escaped to British forces. He received a commission and a small reward. The British gave him small commands, but did not trust him. After the war, he lived in Canada and Britain, dying poor and obscure in 1801. We strive to make our photo descriptions as accurate as possible. Descriptions are taken directly from the U.S. Library of Congress, National Archives, or other sources as noted. In many cases, these institutions hold the original negatives and state the ascribed notes directly from the original photographer. Therefore, we use these institutions as our standard of authority on description accuracy. We are not responsible for errors and we will not participate in disputes. Should you have a dispute, please contact the sighted source directly. This listing provides buyers with the opportunity to review the image and agree with the item description before finalizing a purchase. As such, no refunds will be issued on the basis of an allegedly inaccurate description. We encourage you to feel comfortable with the stated description before ordering. When can I expect my package? Items are delivered via USPS First Class mail (2-5 business days) with no longer than one (1) day handling time. Your item should not be considered untimely unless it has not been received after one full week from your payment date (within the United States). Please consider weekends and holidays when anticipating your package arrival date as well. Standard international delivery times vary depending on location. While First Class International usually delivers within 7-14 business days, it offers no guarantee on delivery times and may take up to a month (usually due to customs issues). Please take this into consideration if you are outside the United States and are placing a time-sensitive order. Tracking is not available on standard international shipments. Expedited international shipping is available and includes tracking service. International expedited shipping delivers in approximately 7 business days. Is your transit packaging secure? Great care will be taken to ensure that your item arrives in excellent condition. Prints are shipped flat on cardboard and sealed in a water-resistant envelope or, for posters and maps, rolled in a crush-resistant tube. We've successfully shipped thousands of prints in this manner, which demonstrates a reliability in our packaging methods. Items will arrive in good order when handled properly by postal carriers. Please note that we pay extra charges to have parcels delivered as PACKAGES, not regular mail. This means your carrier should deliver your package to your doorstep (not bend or cram it into your mailbox). Should you find your package damaged due to this type of handling, please contact your local post office. How long do I have to pay? Payment is expected within (7) seven days. If payment is not received by the eighth day after purchase, we will initiate an unpaid item case. We pay fees on all items sold through eBay and this process is the only way to reverse fees incured by unpaid transactions. Should a payment issue arise, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're happy to work with you! What is your return policy? We will happily exchange any defective or problematic merchandise. However, cash refunds are not allowed, as your bid is a commitment to buy according to eBay policy. The nature of our merchandise also compells us to protect against being treated as a lending library. Therefore, please be confident of desire for our items before placing your order. We ask that you contact us with any potential issue before leaving negative feedback, as we are committed to your 100% satisfaction and feel any problem can be easily resolved. victoria heilshorn studio You may be whatever you resolve to be. -- Thomas J.
