Description: MD-55US Army Typhon SMRF Missile BatteryItem is a 1/700 scale model kit of cast white resin vehicles of the new US Army Typhon Strategic Mid-Range Fires (SMRF) missile system, formerly known as the Mid-Range Capability (MRC) system.The U.S. Army conducted a strategic fires study in 2020 that identified a capability gap in its long- and mid-range precision fires portfolio. Lockheed Martin was awarded the contract to quickly develop and deliver the new mid-range fires system, called the Typhon, which mounts the new Mk 70 Mod 1 VLS launcher (based on the Navy’s Aegis Mk 41 VLS) on a tractor/trailer configuration. The trailer serves as a transporter/erector/launcher (TEL). The Typhon SMRF system leverages existing SM-6 and Tomahawk cruise missiles modified for ground launch and will also launch a variety of missiles that are currently used in the Navy Mk 41 launcher, including LRASM, SM-2, SM-3, ESSM, and VLA. The US Army has fielded two Typhon batteries with an additional three batteries currently planned for deployment in Europe and Asia. The USMC is also exploring acquiring the mid-range fires system.This model kit is extensively researched and finished in high detail to 1/700 scale exact.
