Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Campagnolo (Campy) Veloce double crankarm set that measures 175 mm in length. It's made from a forged aluminum alloy, so it should be fairly strong and the finish is typical Campy...a nice lightly polished satin silver. These crankarms were marketed as 9-speed models, but please see notes below concerning their adaptability to other drivetrains. For those that are interested, Campy introduced the 9-speed drivetrain to their Veloce groupset in 1998 and it remained this way through 2003. It wasn't until 2004 that Campy upgraded the Veloce groupset to a 10-speed drivetrain. The bolt-circle-diameter (BCD) of the five-arm spider that connects to the chainrings is 135 mm. Other specs worth noting include the English threaded bolt-hole for a 9/16" pedal axle and the square-tapered spindle hole for a bottom bracket with an ISO taper and a total (spindle) length of 111 mm. Another interesting specification that is probably not as widely known concerns the thickness of the chainring mounting arms. More specifically, because we noted 9/10-speed Veloce quality chainrings measure about the same thickness at the bolt holes, we believed Campy deliberately varied the thickness of their Veloce crankarms...at the chainring mounting points...to achieve the desired spacing for a 9-speed drivetrain vs. a 10-speed drivetrain. Sure enough, caliper measurements confirmed there is nearly a 0.5 mm difference between Veloce 9-speed and 10-speed crankarms (at these chainring mounting points). In all honesty, I thought the difference would be larger and feedback from customers indicates they are able to use one of these crankarms that would have been marketed for a 9-speed drivetrain on their Campy 10-speed drivetrain. It's also worth noting that spacers are available to push chainrings farther apart to achieve appropriate spacing for nearly any older drivetrain. For example, these Veloce 9-speed crankarms may be fitted to a 7/8-speed drivetrain with appropriate spacers (if even needed) to accommodate the wider chain that is generally used with older drivetrains. Please also note when installing spacers, the most common practice on a double crankarm is to insert them between the large chainring and the crankarm. As for condition, these crankarm sets were bulk-packed, so expect some shopwear (scratches and scuffs), but the overall cosmetic condition is still fairly good. In other words, I don't see any major or deep scuffs/scratches. I will also see some of these crankarms where the black labeling is wearing off from the years of storage (as these crankarm sets are around 20 years old). Finally, I am noticing some of the square tapered openings on the right crankarm are marked up a bit...maybe from being bolted onto a bottom bracket for display purposes, etc. I don't see the same markings on the left crankarms.
