Description: Good Day and Welcome! Good Day and Welcome! This is a Italian Regia Marina (Royal Navy) Starter fleet for Cruel Seas, the World War II Naval Battle Game. I contains 1/300 scale resin and metal miniatures, as well as data cards, counters and markers for the game. You can simulate small coastal battles among small navies during World Wars II. This fleet contains:4x netak MAS boats 1x resin and metal F-Lighter 1x resin and metal MX-Motozattera-AFP1x metal Cr.32 biplane Ship datacards, wake sheets, Japanese Navy flag sheet, torpedo markers, damage markers and (plastic) plume markers. Cruel Seas is a fantastic game, where you take command of a small fleet of MTB, minesweepers, torpedo boats and planes to fight on coastal waters. The miniatures are 1/300 scale, compatible with other 1/300 and 1/285 miniatures. Detail is excellent but you will need a certain degree of modeling experience to put together the larger vessels. Once built and painted, all you need is a blue cloth or sea game mat (I use my D&D mat) to play. This however is not a complete game, you need a copy of Cruel Seas, available as a digital file or physical book. The rules are simple and easy to learn. About the Italian Regia Marina fleet: This Italian Regia Marina fleet set contains some of the best looking ships of the Second World War -seven Italian vessels ann the trusty CR.32 biplane. The Ragia Marina in World War II was a modern, well-run and experienced fleet which built on an excellent performance in the Great War, mainly against the Austrian Navy. By the outbreak of war, the Regia Marina had assembled a powerful, balanced fleet of destroyers, cruisers torpedo boats and some splendid-looking battleships. The ships were as deadly as they were handsome. Excelling with smaller craft the Italian navy's gunboats and torpedo boats were efficient and deadly in the confines of the Mediterranean, which the Italians perhaps understandably referred to it as Mare nostrum ("Our Sea"). When the clouds of war came in 1939, a vainglorious Mussolini expected to keep that sea Italian! Although Mussolini's navy would need to consider taking on French and Greek Vessels, it was against the all-powerful Royal Navy who patrolled the Med as if it was their own that the Italian navy would hardest press. The tactics of the Italian fleet were to try and maintain range by speed and firepower rather than to close, but as they were almost bereft of radar led them to few successes against capital ships. A more significant problem seemed to be that having no radar lefe them at a terrible disadvantage in night actions, for which they appeared to be wholly unprepared. The MAS boats are the main strike force, but the Gabbiano-class corvette bristles with guns and torpedo tubes - a mighty enemy to go toe-to-toe with. The Italian military had no fleet air arm as such and no serving carriers, so co-operation with their air force was poor compared to other nations. Where the Regia Marina showed their skill was with their incredibly well-trained and brave small boat units. These men could operate MAS boats -fast, sleek motor torpedo boats that would strike at night, launching deadly torpedoes at Allied convoys then speeding home for a nice glass of Chianti. Their frogmen and small chariot human torpedoes gave the Royal Navy a bloody nose more often than one occasion.
