NORMAN ROCKWELL - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED - HFSID 77520 NORMAN ROCKWELL Norman Rockwell writes a letter to friend asking about some items that were left to be sent later. Autograph Letter Signed: " 'Oscar' Norman/the actor", 1p, 6x7¾. Stockbridge, Massachusetts, no date. On his imprinted letterhead to "Dear Pete". In full: "When I left the Continental Hotel. I left that brand new magnificent Western hat that that hat maker gave me and a transistor radio with the head bellman to mail me. I gave him a big tip but I haven't gotten them. Maybe it's just the slowness of the mails but would you please ask them if they have sent. Sorry to bother you. Yours" Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of 1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually resembled photographs rather than paintings. He painted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for "Boy's Life". In addition to his many works for the Post, Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in 1960. Fold crease not at signature. Staple hole at upper right corner. Fine condition.
