Description: Up for grabs an original, genuine, complete set of 500-drachmae coin variations (six total) minted in 2000 by the Bank of Greece to commemorate the forthcoming Athens Olympic Games 2004 taking over from Sydney 2000 with homage to origins, and to bid farewell to local drachmae currency issued since the antiquity phasing-in the Euro, in New condition (actual pics shown, zoom over). Cast of fine Copper-Nickel (75-25% clad), dia.28.5mm, thickness 1.98mm, 9.54gr, with round edges. Heads side embossed/relief with the Olympic circles (symbol of globe unity), the laurel wreath (symbol of honour and achievement) over Athens 2004 (Games logo), Hellenic Democracy circumscribed. Tails side embossed with six (6) theme variations from the modern and ancient Games as follows: 1. The Torch, depicting the priestess relaying the torch with the sacred Olympic flame bound to Sydney, 2000 CE to be handed to Cathy Freeman. 2. The Stadium, depicting entrance to the original venue at Olympia. 3. Diagoras of Rhodes, depicting twice Olympic champion Diagoras gloriously lifted on the shoulders of his two sons after both of them won gold in the 448 BC games, reaching the heavens moments later he passed away on the spot. 4. Pierre de Coubertin with Dimitri Vikelas, modern Olympic movement, Paris 1894 CE. 5. Spyridon Louis, Marathon gold winner first modern games, Athens 1896 CE wearing the local kilt, tomb of Marathon in the background (Louis was also the Greek standard-bearer at the Berlin games opening ceremony, 1936 CE presenting Hitler an olive branch for world peace/pic - to no avail, himself passed 1940). 6. The Medal, facsimile of the artwork of the 1896 CE medal depicting radiant Nike bringing laurels against the backdrop of the Parthenon (Athenian victory and valour) at the Acropolis (eternal symbol of Democracy).
