Description: Original 1900 map “Samar,” Philippines published by the US Treasury Department, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, Henry S. Pritchett, Superintendent, in the Atlas of the Philippine Islands, GPO. This color flat map measures approximately 13 x 14 ¾” and is in Spanish. Atlas was badly damaged, and the maps have been salvaged. Great period map of this area. As stated in the introduction to the atlas, the maps in the atlas were produced in the 1890s at the Jesuit Observatory under the supervision of the director, Rev. Jose Algue, S.J., and that the technical work on the maps was executed wholly by native Philippine draftsmen. This item does not include the pictured title page and introduction from the atlas, they are included for reference only. Removed from atlas, some binding holes and tears along left edge, see photos for details. NO LOCAL PICKUPS.
