Description: Original Deed - Salem, Mass - 1828 Parcel of Land in North Salem, Sold by Elizabeth Cox to John Waters for $150. In 1828, the land was in 'North Field's' an agricultural area divided into many smallish plots. The area is now known as Northfield, and is an upscale residential neighborhood in North Salem. I've had several deeds in the past for land in North Fields and the name Waters has appeared frequently, always a buyer. The document is in very good condition although I've had to strengthen some fold lines with special archival tape designed for that purpose. On the back side, of course and almost invisible. The document will be good for another 194 years. Clearly legible with wonderful hand-written script. Nice dark brown ink on (now) ivory colored paper. Paper size is: 12-1/2" x 8". Too long for my scanner so I've scanned it twice - top half and bottom. (Note the interesting comment at the bottom ... Elizabeth Cox was blind so Amos Choate, the Justice of the Peace, guided her hand to sign the document. ____________________________________Inv.
