Description: Original BU Roll 1950-D Lincoln Wheat Cents Original Union Bank Paper 50 Coins Here we have a very interesting and quite rare bank roll of 1950-D BU Lincoln Cents.The roll is stamped: PAY TO THE ORDER OF UNION BANK of COMMERCECLEVELAND, OHIOTHE JACOB LAUB BAKING COMPANYThis is a hand wrapped roll and the only roll of it's kind I have come across in all my years of vintage roll collecting. The paper is clearly decades old as it is starting to fall apart.As can be seen in the first picture, the roll is being held together by being stored in a plastic coin tube and the elastics or rubber bands are putting pressure on the two ends to keep the coins from falling out of the torn or ripped paper at the ends. The texture of the paper has become soft and the two ends have started to tear. It seems if I were to empty the roll, there is a good chance I may not be able to get the coins back in without destroying the paper or at least ripping it more than it already is. As the ends are torn, it was easy to let the top couple coins fall out so I could get pictures of the two coins side by side, Heads/Tails.I have owned this roll for almost 10 years and I did empty the roll once befpore and I can confirm at least then the coins were mostly a vibrant red to brick red, probably some that are Red/Brown. I'm sure some have probably developed some carbon spotting which is extremely common on BU Rolls of Copper Cents. Copper is by far the most reactive metal used in coins and is almost impossible to prevent from toning to some degree or worse, corrosion or verdigris when not stored properly in the proper environment.This roll has been stored in a safe, with controlled temperatures and low humidity.Much of the value of the roll comes from the scarcity of the paper. Obviously the 1950-D Denver BU Licoln Cent Roll is a slightly better date roll but a lot of the value is in the paper even though it isnt bank wrapped / crimped.NO RETURNS ON ROLLS BU Rolls of Lincoln Cents and other US coin are predominantly lower grade, not the "Gem BU" portrayed by most. Gems are rare. Not every coin or roll is "Gem BU".We do not apply the term GEM BU to the original rolls we sell. It's incorrect to label an entire roll gem as if gem is average. Gems are rare nd to just describve a roll of 50 coins as Gem, is irresponsible and totally false. On average, one would do very well to get 5-10 gems in the average roll. Uncirculated or BU means no trace of wear. It does not mean perfect or even gem. Gem is way overused today. There are 10+ shades of grey within the Uncirculated grading scale and a lot of half grades, plusses, et. al. The seventy grade is perfect. Thats not what youre going to find in any original bank wrapped roll. So if thats what you're looking for, you need to buy a certified coin as thats apples and oranges.
