Description: Restored Pair of Pass & Seymour (ALABAX) Art Deco, White Porcelain Sconces & Opal Cylinder Shades These white porcelain sconces were manufactured by Pass & Seymour in Syracuse, NY during the 1930's to early 1950's. They are not signed, but we have had this type of fixture before, and they were definitely made by Pass & Seymour. P&S marketed their porcelain lighting under the name ALABAX and these were probably labeled as such when new, but the tags have been lost, or maybe they were marketed by a retailer like Sears & Roebuck that did not want customers to see the manufacturer's name. The porcelain on these fixtures is in very good condition...they are chip free. We have carefully cleaned each sconce including removing the old overpaint from the sides and back. The opal glass shades are also in good condition...a few tiny chips along the rims, but nothing notable. There is a faint blue line on the bottom of one fixture (see left sconce in photo #7), but it is in the glaze not on it, i.e., it is original to the sconce. It is not obvious, but it is there. We rewired the bulb sockets with new heat resistant wiring and added new nickel plated rotary switches. The fixtures have been tested and they work perfectly. Each sconce has a polarized outlet on the bottom side, and those have also been rewired, but since they are not the modern 3-wire grounded system, the buyer and his/her electrician will need to decide whether to hook them up. The glass cylinder shades are in excellent condition with only tiny chips along the edges. We have shown each end of the shades in photos #12 & #13 . Dimensions: 6-3/4" high, 3-3/4" wide, project 5" from the wall. They use standard base bulbs (not included). Mounting hardware is included. (A note on mounting: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the mounting screws. We have seen these type of sconces for sale with the mounting hole broken out, no doubt because the installer was aggressive with the screwdriver. These are porcelain, not metal, and they will break if you over tighten the mounting screws. Just firm them up and stop. They will not fall off the wall!) Shipping is buyer's choice of USPS Ground Advantage, UPS or FedEx Ground, or USPS Priority Mail. We will insure them for the purchase price. They will be packed securely in bubble wrap and biodegradable packing peanuts made from starch. If the buyer would like to sign for them, please advise us and we will included that requirement. The sconces are guaranteed to be as described and we will accept their return if buyer is dissatisfied. Just notify us within 30 days of receiving them. We have other sconces and lots of other porcelain fixtures for sale, so please check out our lighting store!
