Description: Large unusual antique map of Persia, by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi (1627-1691) and Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola (1643-1695), with a nice cartouche titled : "REGNO DI PERSIA...da Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola ....Gio Giacomo de Rossi ....1679". Size with margins : 59,8 x 47 cm / 23,2 x 18,5 inches This map of the Persian Empire is filled with detail and stretches from the Black Sea to the Indian Ocean. The Caspian Sea is shown in an odd, round shape that extends more east to west than north to south. The decorative title cartouche features a Persian map and weaponry. The map is engraved by Georgio Widman. Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi was an italian engraver and painter, at the end of the 17th century. His father Giuseppe de Rossi (1570-1639) was the most important and active printer of the 17th century. After his death, Giacomo and his brother Giandominco (1619-1653) taked the firm of the father and made the firm the best known printing house of Italy in the 17th century. Edition: From "Mercurio Geografico overo Guida Geografica in Tutte Le Parti del Mondo". For this atlas, Giacomo de Rossi worked with Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola.The firm published also maps from Nicolas & Guillaume Sanson.Later, the firm was solded to Lorenzo Filippo, knowned as "Calcografia Nazionale", then, the "Regia Calcografica". It still exits today as "Calcografia Nazionale". It is as a museum which owns one of the most important and nice maps of the world. Condition : very good condition, a few brown spotting in the Caspian sea, on strong paper, well engraved, handed colored.Edition : Rome, dated 1679, 17th Century.
