All functionalities work - red light, strobe, locking, different levels of brightness. I see some reviews mentioning they couldn’t figure out how to enable different modes. 1) Hold the button for 4 seconds to lock or unlock it to prevent accidentally turning on the light in your backpack. 2) After unlocking, single click will switch the brightness levels of white light or turn off. 3) Holding it for 2-3 seconds when in white light mode switches it to red light mode. 4) Single click in red light mode will switch it between strobe and regular red light. Holding it for 2-3 seconds will switch it to white light mode again. I see some other reviews mentioning that these might be counterfeit based on the words ‘patend pending’ on the strap. The one I got has those words too, but product works as intended. Used it only once though. Few hours on a hike in the dark in 10F weather. Had it in low brightness for sometime and then switched to the high brightness. Surprised how bright it was. I was hiking in a group and rest of the group walking before me figured light from their headlamp is not even needed any more as mine lit up the trail for significant distance. Love the hybrid option of rechargeable battery and AAA batteries. My only complaint is that the battery compartment is hard to open though. I will update my review after more usage if I find issues with the functionality. Dr. M. Helfand 5.0 out of 5 stars A great headlamp so farReviewed in the United States on October 31, 2022UPDATE: 1. I did figure out how to lock the headlamp. 2. Even the storage bag has a great design. It has an elastic cord to pull tight and seal the bag. To open, it has rubber tabs on each side to pull on. (See photo) I had a Black Diamond headlamp that died after 8 years and a battery that leaked. When I went to replace it with the same brand, the models had completely changed. I didn't like them so I went searching. I had seen a Petzl headlamp on a Nat Geo show so I decided to check them out. I decided on this model for a few reasons. 1. It's a new model. 2. The price was in my range. 3. The number of lumens was in my range. 4. It has two ways of powering. It has both pros & cons, but the pros outweigh the cons. The pros: 1. It comes with a storage bag 2. The strap is adjustable and stays how you adjusted it 3. It has 3 levels of white light: from good to fantastic. 4. It uses either 3 AAA batteries or the included rechargeable battery pack. 5. It feels well made, even though it's plastic 6. You can point the light up, straight ahead & down while wearing it on your head. The cons: 1. The instructions are difficult to understand until you figure them out. It looks like you have to push different buttons. However, I figured out how to change white levels, change back and forth from white to red light and turn on the red strobe. It's all done with the single button on the top. Just hold it down for varying times 2. The battery door is difficult to open. I had to use a knife to pry it open and you have to open it to charge the battery. I don't advise using a knife. 3. It has a lock so it won't turn on by accident. Unfortunately, I still haven't figured out how to lock it. Taking everything into consideration, I would definitely buy it again. I will update this review in 3 to 6 months with battery time and sturdiness.
