Spurlock is an Assistant Professor at Eastern Kentucky University in the College of Justice and Safety, and the Managing Member Attorney with Spurlock Law, PLLC. In addition to being a practicing attorney, he is also a Board Certified Safety Professional. At EKU, Barry teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on topics such as workers compensation and labor law, workers compensation management, occupational safety management, safety performance measurement and workplace hazard identification and control. Prior to being a full-time faculty member at EKU, Barry practiced employment law full time and devoted a significant amount of his practice to representing and advising employers on OSHA matters. Before becoming an attorney, Barry worked for over 16 years as a safety and environmental professional in the steel, food and insurance industries. He also served as an adjunct faculty for Indiana University for over a decade, and while there developed one of the first courses on safety performance measurement to be offered at any university. Barry holds a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Safety and Risk Management, and a Master of Science in Loss Prevention and Safety Administration, both from Eastern Kentucky University. He also holds a Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky Universitys Salmon P. Chase College of Law. Barry is an active member of ASSE and currently serves the Louisville Chapter as a past president and as Chair of the Government Affairs Committee. He is also a member of ASSEs National Government Affairs Committee. Barry has authored articles for the American Bar Associations Tort & Insurance Practice Specialtys Workers Compensation and Employers Liability periodical, and is co-author of the book "Chomp Comp; The Small Business Guide to Lower Workers Compensation Premiums." He is a frequent speaker at the most prestigious national safety conferences.
