Description: post-Vietnam Era US Army Heavy Duty Nylon Coated Poncho - Dated 1979 - Very NICE Condition Up for sale is a post-Vietnam Era US Army Heavy Duty Nylon Coated Poncho. Almost identical to the ones used during the Vietnam Period. The poncho has the hood. The pull string on the chest area was eliminated on this later version. The markings are still present and readable, it has a 1979 contract date. The poncho liner is in Very Nice overall Condition. No visible rips or tears. Some minor cracking and flaking of the rubberized coating of the material, see photo. The snaps and eyelets are all present. See photos for details. The plastic coated nylon poncho had a permanently attached hood, waist draw-cord tabs and snap fasteners down both sides. It was designed to be used as a rain cape, but could also be used as a blanket, sleeping bag cover or shelter half. A liner could also be tied inside the poncho to create a hybrid lightweight sleeping bag.The standard poncho proved unsatisfactory for use in Vietnam because it was too heavy when wet and the shiny coating gleamed in the rain. These deficiencies were resolved with the introduction of the lightweight poncho. Please see photos. Check out my other items! Please use shipping calculator for shipping cost to your area.
