Description: For Sale: a postcard featuring the Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Asheville, North Carolina published by Asheville Post Card Company, Asheville, NC. The Minor Basilica of St. Lawrence the Minister and Saint is a minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Church in midtown Asheville, North Carolina, US. Together with fellow Spanish architect R. S. Smith and the Roman Catholic community of Asheville, the church was designed and constructed in 1905. Pope John Paul II raised the situation with the congregation to minor basilica in 1993. It is a ward church, situated inside the Bishopric of Charlotte. It is the only basilica in western North Carolina and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is said to have the largest freestanding elliptical dome in North America, with a span of 58 by 82 feet (18 by 25 meters), and it was designed with inspiration from the Basilica de los Desamparados in Valencia. Spanish Renaissance architecture is used for the design. It is situated in the Midtown Asheville Architecturally significant area.
