Description: We acquired this Pre-Columbian piece from auction where it was consigned from a private NYC collection. Its origins are estimated between 300 BC and 200 CE. This is a terracotta vessel featuring three rows of incisions on the neck and moving down to the shoulder. Nodes or bumps interrupt the lowest line. Typically, pieces from this culture are figural, making potteries such as this one more rare. The Tumaco - La Tolita culture occupied portions of the southern coast of Columbia and the northern coast of Ecuador. The culture is perhaps best known for their building of earthen mounds known as Tolas. This piece is 4.25" across when measured at its widest points and a little under 4" tall. Please note that we do not import or export ancient items. Additionally, our items typically come from people and businesses that we know and trust. We tend to avoid buying from unknown sources or individuals because we cannot guarantee that they have obtained their inventory through legitimate means. Our listings are researched prior to posting and our descriptions are informed by our own knowledge and experience as well as by the vendors from which we obtain our inventory. Thus, our titles and descriptions are our opinions as to the nature and history of the object for sale. Even so, we welcome discussions and questions PRIOR to purchase.
