Description: Up for auction is this Ulysses S. Grant U.S. Mint Medal struck in Bronze. The original medal was struck by the U.S. Mint in 1872 to commemorate President Ulysses S. Grant. The phrase "Let Us Have Peace" comes from Grant's letter of May 29, 1868 accepting the Republican nomination for the Presidency. U.S. Mint Engraver, William Barber cut both dies for the original medal. His name appears on this medal in small raised letters just below Grant’s neck. The Julian Catalog number for the medal is PR-14. This is the modern U.S. Mint re-strike which has not been available from the Mint since the 1980s. I believe that the US Mint product number for this item was #633. The photos are the actual Medal that you will receive. The approximate weight of the medal is 42.2 grams or 1.49 ounces, and its diameter is 45.5 mm or approximately 1.79 inches. The obverse design is in extremely high relief. The reverse design is in normal low relief. These US Mint Medals are very collectable, are great pieces of history. This item would make a great Gift for the Numismatist and or Exonomist in your family! This Medal exhibits an ever so slight amount of toning from age. I grade this Medal as a Choice Uncirculated.
