Description: One of the HEAVIEST Round paddle boards I currently have listed. PLUS it's got LOADS of primitive character. The thing that sets our Primitive boards apart is the FINISH. It's not a "dull wood" finish. We have a special bees wax aging finish that we apply to all of our bowls. It takes an already distressed bowl and makes it look OLD and WARM and very primitive. And it STAYS that way for the life of the board. It is smooth to the touch and it is beautiful. THIS one was made out of a piece of mexican "worm wood". Don't worry.....it doesn't have BUGS (lol). They call it that because this type of wood always has lots of tunnels in it because when it's live on the tree they burrow into it. So when they cut the trees down and make furniture or other wood products out of it the cross holes remain creating a really primitive look. They don't take away from the integrity of the wood. Rather they just create a rustic feel. They carve these Paddle boards in Mexico out of whatever wood they have available at the time (usually Pine). NO two are ever exactly alike and while none of them are "perfect" (slight splits, warps, etc) they're all very primitive and make wonderful wall hang accent pieces. When I get them they're VERY dirty and the wood is super dry. I go through and pick out the ones with the most character. I clean each one up as best as possible and apply our aging wax before buffing it to a wonderful warm patina. THEN I drill a hole in the handle and tie a loop of leather so that it is now perfect as a primitive kitchen (or elsewhere) wall hang! This would NOT be suitable for displaying raw foods (like cheese, bread, etc) because the moisture in foods would eventually wear away the wax finish. They're also not suitable for use as cutting boards because (again) they've not been prepped (they haven't been cleaned to THAT extent) or planed (they wouldn't lay perfectly flat) for that kind of use. That's why we sell them as primitive decor wall hangs. THIS is a NICE one with loads of character. It measures 19 1/4 inches long, 11 1/8 inches wide and 3/4" thick. It weighs TWO POUNDS.
