Description: Protea coronata (Crowned Protea) PLEASE NOTE - PROTEAS AND THEIR RELATIVES ARE DIFFICULT PLANTS TO GROW AND MAINTAIN. THE YOUNG PLANTS I AM SELLING ARE IN PERFECT CONDITION AND HEALTH AT THE TIME OF SHIPPING. I ONLY GUARANTEE SAFE ARRIVAL - BUT OFFER NO GUARANTEE FOR THEIR SURVIVAL. Also... the plants being shipped are coming from a very cool climate, with summer daytime temperatures in the low to mid 60s to low 70s, with temps rarely exceeding 75. If you are in a hot climate, or are inexperienced with these temperamental plants, please refrain from ordering until your temperatures will be compatible, or unless you are able to protect them and give them what they need right away - more plants will be available in spring. Thank you for your understanding. Previously named "Protea macrocephala", this is one that is well-known by florists for it's 4-inch, oblong, bright apple green flower heads. The outer bracts only open as much as seen in the photo, measuring about 2 inches across, with a mass of snow-white flowers that pack the center like a cotton ball, and each bract is edged with fine white hairs. Sometimes flowering in the second year from seed, the shrubs offer soft, tapering, greyish green leaves, on shrubs that may attain heights of 8-10 feet (in 4 years), with very upright growth, and blooming from autumn through winter, into spring. Hardy zones 9 and above. Not suitable for growing in pots. Requires excellent air movement - will even tolerate coastal wind. The genus name honors the Greek Sea God, Proteus, who had the power to assume a great diversity of shapes - a reference to the diversity within this wonderful genus. This offer is for one, small, first year seedling, in a 2" x 7" tube pot. Ready for transplanting into a gallon pot (for a season), or directly into the garden (preferred). The new year's growth is starting to show, or is already underway. The Seedlings shipped will vary in size from 3" to 6+" tall, depending on the species. Detailed growing instructions are included. As the plants are grown unprotected outdoors, some of the leaves may show a few blemishes or nibbles, and the leaves may take on some maroon tints in the winter and early spring. All photos are of plants among my collection, unless stated otherwise (flower photo borrowed from the internet). The last photo shows a batch of various seedlings and variation in heights of seedlings, which is dependent on species. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING - SORRY - I ONLY SHIP TO THE US. I do combine shipping for multiple items - please request a new shipping total before checking out.
