Front: Pueblo Indian Eagle Dance, New Mexico. Back: PUEBLO INDIAN EAGLE DANCE, NEW MEXICO – There is no more charming dance among the Pueblo Indians and probably not among the whites than the “Eagle Dance”. The dancers are gotten up to represent eagles’ bodies painted black, feathers on the arms to represent wings, a cap of downy white on the head, with a yellow beak, and even the eagles’ tails are represented. Accompanied by drums and a slow chant by the singers, the “Eagles” portray the sacred birds rising from the ground, flying and soaring. – PUBLISHED BY SOUTHWEST ARTS & CRAFTS, SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO - “TICHNOR QUALITY VIEWS” REG.
