Volume One includes two battle plans, that of the Battle of Germantown and the Battle of Cowpens. William Johnson was an associate justice of the US Supreme Court and served as a jurist and legislator in South Carolina and was influential in establishing the University of South Carolina. Johnson was appointed by Jefferson and was often as loggerheads with the Federalist dominated court of John Marshall. His father had served with Greene in the revolution.
