Description: RARE 19th Century Antique Old Hall England Earthenware Black MADRAS Chamber Pot Antique Old Hall England Transferware Black MADRAS Pottery. A wonderful old Chamber Pot in the "Madras" pattern with the impressed mark of Old Hall Earthenware Staffordshire Pottery created between 1881 and 1886. Features Birds, Fans, Palms and Stylized Flowers. Indian Stoneware detailing. Measures 5.5" tall to top of lid and bowl is 9" in diameter (not incl handle). This is an antique Old Hall Earthenware Co. Transfer Ware, Madras pattern in Black. A Great Treasure! Condition: Great Antique Condition - no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing....Fabulous! There are some black marks/ discolorations indicative of its age. This only gives this piece more character Black Madras Pattern: Black and White Oriental Chinoiserie Scene. The MADRAS transferware pattern was produced in brown, blue and black. Stunning, large round Chamber Pot with Bamboo and Bird design. Made by Old Hall Earthenware Co Ltd and inscribed with Madras style mark. This rare 19th century pot is exquisite. History: Old Hall Earthenware Co Ltd - Operated from 1861-1886. Manufacturer of earthenware, china, stoneware and parian manufacturers at the Old Hall Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The Old Hall Works was operated from 1790 by the Meigh family. In March 1861 Charles Meigh jnr. transferred the business to a limited liability company called the Old Hall Earthenware Company Ltd. This was the first pottery limited company in the Staffordshire Potteries. In 1886 it was replaced by the Old Hall Porcelain Works Company which closed in 1902. This Chamber Pot has the Old Hall England E’ware CR(L) logo is stamped on back. Made in England Circa 1861-1880, before the maker's mark was changed to include a castle. The Old Hall Earthenware Co Ltd. included the word ENGLAND in their back marking before the Mckinley Tariff Act of 1891, which is fairly unusual. Comes from a Smoke Free Home.
