Description: Limited edition signed two-color lithograph, "Haitian Nights," by WPA-era American artist Adolf Dehn (1895-1968). Remarkable artwork with masterful shadowing and execution. Signed in pencil in the lower right corner, and numbered in the lower left corner (either 68 / 210 or 68 / 710). Print dates from 1961, the last period of his life, and is well represented in museums (Philadelphia Museum of Art, Portland Museum, Syracuse University Museum). Print measures 19 5/8" by 14.75" and comes matted, under glass, and in a light wood frame, total dimensions 27.25' by 21.25". Print in excellent condition, small spot to mat in upper right corner, one tab holding artwork secure in back is a little loose. Courtesy of Brier Hill Gallery: "A preeminent American lithographer, Adolf Dehn (1895–1968) was born in Waterville, Minnesota. He began his studies at the Minneapolis Art Institute and later at the Art Students League, New York City where he met both Boardman Robinson and George Miller. Robinson helped Dehn to publish his drawings in The Masses, while Miller, a master printer, helped his young apprentice master the art of lithography. From 1921 to 1929, Dehn lived in Europe, working in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris until he returned to America in 1930. He established a studio in New York and, for the next decade produced both satirical and landscape images. In 1941, he taught printmaking technique at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. In 1961, he became an Academician at the National Academy of Design. His work is held by many of the world's leading institutions. He died in New York City." Buyer to pay for item plus shipping.
