Description: This magnificent ONE OF A KIND tablecloth has been in my personal collection for years. I had acquired it from a prominent Family that was steeped in French history and presumably French nobility. They claimed to be the direct ancestors of Napoleon Bonaparte. Here we have Lucien Bonaparte, Napoleons scandalous brother ! This may have actually belonged to him, but I don't think it is quite as old as the early l800's, although it may be. It had been lovingly stored, along with their other treasures. Done in fine white linen. Figural French Rose Filet Lace, Cut work and French Embroidery. You have an incredible boarder with repeating figures of a duck, a squirrel, a rabbit, and a bird. There are 20 Lucians in all!!! 16 around the cloth and 4 in each corner. There are 12 Lions in the center of the cloth. Each lion is 3 3/4" square. Each Lucien is 7 inches square. As you can see, you have the portrait of Lucian with his name in each square done in French Rose Filet. The cloth measures about 98" long by 69" wide. It was specially made for an oval table measuring about 72"long by 42" wide. The center would have the circle of lions and the edges of Lucien would hang over the edge. All four corners would have their own Lucien. Please see all pictures. There are some flaws. A couple of yellow areas in the center of the cloth. I note a couple small holes in the linen, and one Lucien has a 1 1/2" popping in the filet lace. There are some pops in the lace around the boarder here and there, and a few Lucien's have some minor net popping. There may be other minor flaws. I'm sure you will excuse these, as this is perhaps a one of a kind tablecloth. There are 3 napkins that were found with the tablecloth. They are done with a rose filet boarder, hemstitching and a filet lace insert of a flower with cut work and beautiful French Embroidery. They are about 17" square. I detect yellowing on one. Perhaps not matching , but I'm including them since they were found with the tablecloth. They are beautiful. If you have questions, please ask, I am happy to answer, as this tablecloth is not returnable. It is unique and rare. I would consider it a museum piece.Condition of Our Antique and Vintage Linens With the amount of linens we have, it is impossible to list every small defect of each piece.
