Description: This is a Rare WWI 1914 German Battlefield Artillery Shrapnel Trench Art Letter Opener.This Opener has a rare "Iron Cross" logo and is dated "14", the first year of WWI 1914. This Opener is in very good condition. This Opener is 9 1/4" long, by 1 1/4" wide, by 1/4" thick and weighs 4.4 OZ. actual WWI artillery shell shrapnel that was picked up on a French battlefield during WWI and made into a great looking souvenir letter opener to sell to the army troops. These were mostly picked up by and made by civilians and mostly sold to German troops, as most of these are now found in German collections. Occasionally one will even have an iron cross motif as this opener does, confirming that this type was most commonly sold to German troops.Most of the items I sell are estate finds, and are presented to you in, as is, as found condition.
