Chain is approximately 11.5 ft. long and cord is approximately 12.5 ft. long.The socket seems to have some added waterproofing tape(has some type of rubber wrap or tape painted gold) , possibly so lamp could be used on a porch or maybe just made that way . Looks a bit odd but does not affect functionality at all (see pictures). There is no switch so you need to plug into a switched outlet or outlet strip. Glass, chain and socket component may have some slight stains or marks on it from use and age. Glass is generally clean, good looking, and free of cracks. Bulb in pictures is NOT included (in pictures for demo/testing only--this fixture has a standard size socket).You can use standard incandescent or CFL or LED or try a yellow bulb for deeper color. One of those new "filament " bulbs may look cool too. For our pictured test it was a plain white bulb.
