These prints were purchased from Motif Editions when they ceased trading and have been stored flat in temperature controlled conditions ever since. Richard Lindner, was born in 1901. An American - German artist known for his bizarrely erotic portraits that meld human figures with machine like elements that are filled with urban energy an exude a time far ahead of its years. His art has bold lines with dramatic colour palettes. Lindner's interest in visual art led him to attend the Kunstakademie in Munich where he studdied from 1925-1927. He became the art director at Knorr & Hirth a large publishing house where he worked until 1933. Being of Jewish descent he fled to Paris during the Nazi occupation of Europe in the mid 1930's. And in 1941 he moved to America and worked in New York as an illustrator for publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Fortune. He died on April 16th 1978 in New York and is immortalized in the second row of people on the album cover of The Beetles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Today his work is held in collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Tate Gallery in London & The Thyssen - Bornemisza Museum in Madrid among others.
