Bound in by Chas Sawyer of London in 3/4 brown gilt ruled leather with matching marble paper covered boards with titles and raised bands present to the spine. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities. Previous owner's bookplate (Annie Cass Pearson, 1st Viscount Cowdray) present to the front pastedown, previous owner's gift inscription present to the FFEP. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid.The standard history of the regiment in the Great War, including ROH, and awards & decorations. Kipling undertook the history of the regiment in WWI following the death in action of his son John at the Battle of Loos whilst serving with the Second Battalion; a personal tragedy from which the author never fully recovered. FROM WIKIPEDIA: Annie Cass, a daughter of Sir John Cass (1832-1898), of Bradford in Yorkshire, Stuff Merchant, Justice of the Peace and Chairman of the Bradford Conservative Association. She married Weetman Pearson, hugely successful industrialist and businessman, 1st Viscount Cowdray. She was a member of the Women's Liberal Federation and supported female suffrage. She also supported causes related to nursing – leading her to be called the fairy godmother of nursing*. She was a Burgess in Aberdeen.
