Description: Own a priceless example of early American tattoo history with this beautiful original sketch of classic tattoo pin-up designs inspired by legendary tattoo pioneer Sailor Jerry Collins. Drawn in the 1950s, this one-of-a-kind original sketch of iconic USMC designs from the school of one of tattoo history's most important figures comes out of the extensive collection of world famous tattoo artist, Jonathan Shaw. The sheet measures aprox. 9x12" and is rendered on drawing paper. It has a pinup girl sketched in red on the back. This unique drawing is unsigned, but it came together with a similar sketch (already sold) which was signed "Hawaii - June, 1958" in the same unmistakable style {{shown here in last photo for reference only - not included with this sheet}}. The pinup girl on the back of the sheet and some of the lettering ("leatherneck") penciled into one of the design's banners appears to have been made by another tattoo artist who may have acquired it later - but the original design's linework is pure Sailor Jerry. It comes with a handwritten Certificate of Authenticity from Jonathan Shaw. It is part of the renowned archives of classic tattoo artwork featured in Shaw's ongoing book series Vintage Tattoo Flash published on Powerhouse Books.
