Description: Chicago/NW Indiana Artist Hazel Hannell Beautiful native wildflowers block prints set of 4 different postcards as shown. Eight sets available. Hazel Hannell (1895–2002) was an American artist and activist, born Mary Hazel Johnson in La Grange, IL, known for her pottery, watercolors, woodblock prints, activism for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and development of the Chesterton Art Fair. She taught pottery in her studio at home and watercolor painting at The Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay, WI through her connection to fellow Prairie Club member Jens Jensen. The Hannells were founding members of the Association of Artists and Craftsmen of Porter County and instrumental in organizing the long-running annual Chesterton Art Fair. I was with mom when she bought one of Hazel's tea pots (sorry, not parting with that yet). Mom volunteered at the Save the Dunes Gift Shop where these postcards raised funds. My father was inspired by Hazel to roam the woods and photograph native plants. If anyone wants his color slides from that period, let me know, I will add them to your purchase! Following her husband's death in 1964, Hazel operated Hannell Pottery until the late 1980s. In 1988, she sold her Furnessville property and moved to Oregon.
