Description: The Sheaffer Balance II Millennium was released by Sheaffer in late 1999 as a Special Edition in commemoration of the Millennium year 2000. The pen is made of compressed acrylic in a beautiful marbled black and indigo blue best appreciated in bright light. In lower light it can appear mostly black. It has the Sheaffer White Dot on the cap, SHEAFFER'S stamped on the gold plated clip, and a single gold plated cap band stamped MILLENIUM. The trim is all gold electroplate The Sheaffer Pen Company released the Balance II pen series around 1998. It was the late 1990s redo of their classic Balance pen from 1930 which was discontinued in 1945. The Balance II was offered in three solid colors made from an injection molded solid color resin. The Balance II Glow series originally came in four marbled acrylic colors; Amber Glow, Cobalt Glow, Crimson Glow and Jade Green. The marbled acrylic pens are not made from injection molded resin but from an acrylic compression which offered magnificent colors but unfortunately could leave weak spots. The marbled acrylic pens developed a reputation among collectors for being prone to the caps cracking. Apparently the marbled Special Edition pens such as this Millennium and the Aspen share the same potential for cracking. I have listed three of the molded acrylic Glow pens that were in my deceased husband’s private collection. My husband was aware that these pens needed to be treated gently and he took special care of them. He enjoyed these pens for nearly twenty years both at his desk and in his display cases. As a result, all are in excellent condition. There are absolutely no cracks and they look like new pens. It needs an ink refill.
