Built to Take Every Shift Our new Side Detent Shifter works with all TH200, 250, 350, and 400 transmission models. The shifter assembly is made from steel to take years of abuse and features a robust reverse lockout system to prevent inadvertent shifter movement into reverse during spirited manual shift driving. Positive shift position detents provide feedback confirmation as to what gear position you are in while preventing you from over-running 2nd gear. We have included both a neutral safety switch and reverse light switch right on the shifter body that can be easily wired into stock wiring or any aftermarket wire harness solution. The shifter lever has been crafted with a 7/8-inch center to center spacing using 3/8-16 threaded holes to mount any two-bolt manual shift lever of your choice (shift lever and knob not included). The provided five-foot shifter cable allows multiple routing choices to clear exhaust and vehicle crossmembers, while the included cable mounting bracket supports both side and bottom mounting locations on your transmission. Simple Bolt-On Solution Our Side Detent Shifter is the perfect solution for your GM Turbo-Hydramatic-equipped project and mounts solidly to your transmission tunnel with the included hardware. Simply locate the shifter assembly, noting dash and seating constraints for your shift lever of choice, and drill four 5/16-inch holes to secure the shifter assembly in place. An additional 1-inch hole will need to be drilled for shifter cable pass through to route the shifter cable from the shifter to the transmission. The included vacuum-formed ABS plastic top cover provides a finished look to the shifter and is easily trimmed to match the contours of your transmission tunnel. A chrome-plated steel trim ring and a stitched black vinyl multi-panel shift boot finishes off the installation for a classic appearance. The top cover can even be fitted under your carpet if you choose so that only the trim ring and shift boot/lever are above the carpet for a near “factory” look. It appears to be user friendly. Its not for racing but is plenty safe to use on the cruise. Looks like Ill be able to utilize the same shift-cable as was on the B&M Star Shifter it will replace. Further than that remains to be seen, since its still sitting on the shop table. Can hardly wait to put it in. The parts and brackets were surprisingly heavy duty. No bendy cable brackets. Has provisions for both a reverse light switch and a safety switch, no decision between track safety inspection or compromised safety but working lights or trouble fitting a bulky factory switch somewhere with no mounting. It comes with a boot and a guard to blend it into the carpet for a factory non console look. Cable shifter so you dont need a long slot or manual style hole in the floor pan. The detent has a positive feel. Despite its build quality i wouldnt call this a racing shifter. I dont believe the gate/detent mech prevents accidental neutral shifts. The detent will give feedback for sure but the gate wont require any side motion. The shifter can also enter second without side motion which is good for passing gear without a kickdown cable and reverse valve body guys may also like it for an easy 1-2 shift but i suppose it could also allow 2nd gear starts if youre a little aggressive. If you absolutely need a full gate or ratchet this isnt your shifter. But if you just want a column out of your way or happen to have a manual column without a hole in the floor for a rod actuated shifter this thing is great. It may even be more robust than the rod actuated shifters available, the cable isolates engine movement if you prefer not to bolt the shifter to the transmission case and dont want issues of acceleration induced shifts and it doesnt need some extra purchase of an accessory kit to wire it so even if a rod shifter is an option for you this may be a better option. Cons: No shift indicator (if youre into that) Not fully gated so maybe not for racing. Pros: Cable can be reversed on shifter Heavy duty parts Reverse light AND neutral/park safety switch. It seems to be a great unit and will work good in my 1934 ford roadster with the T-400 transmission.
