Silicon Carbide: 40 lbs - 60/90 Grit Medium - Polishing/Tumbling Abrasive Media

Description: Premium Silicon Carbide Polishing, Tumbling, and Lapidary Abrasive Media. Condition is New. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. Silicon Carbide (SiC)is an extremely hard (9.5 on MOHS scale) abrasive with sharp edges. It is well suited for non-metallic materials such as concrete, stone, glass, Carbide, and other hard materials. SiC is the hardest blasting media available, allowing for shorter blasting times. It is very fast cutting and can be reused multiple times. It can be used in the glass etching industry and for tumbling rocks, as well as for pressure blasting very hard materials. Rock tumbling with silicon carbide is typically done in steps, starting with a coarser grit like 60/90, followed by tumbling with medium, then finer grits. It is a very environmentally-friendly product that is made from recycled grinding wheels or spent blast media, otherwise destined for the landfill. Significant SAVINGS by ordering larger quantities SAVE by combining grit sizes (up to 25 lbs. per box), List sizes and request total We offer our silicon carbide in three different package sizes: 4 lbs., 25 lbs., and 50 lbs. Our 50 lbs. package is shipped in two 25-pound boxes and the others come in a single box. We are able to size to any grit and offer grit sizes 20, 24, 36, 46, 46/70, 60, 60/90, 80, 100, 120, 120/220, 150, 180, 220, 240. These grit sizes conform to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B74.12-2001 ANSI Table 2 Allowable Limits for the Sizing of Aluminum Oxide and Silicon Carbide Abrasive Grain for Grinding Wheel Manufacture and General Polishing Purposes. * Photos are of the correct type of abrasive blast media, not necessarily the exact grit size. Silicon Carbide (SiC) Synthetic Silicon Carbide is a silica-free, inert compound with a tough, crystalline structure and a uniform hardness of 9.5 on the MOHS scale (Diamond is 10). It performs as an excellent blast cabinet media where the grit is contained for re-use, capable of up to 8 or more reuses. These properties combined with uniform particle sizing provide high-speed production with excellent visibility (very low dusting) and lower air requirements. Unlike most other blast media, which are natural or by-products, synthetic SiC has uniform properties without random natural weaknesses, making it the most widely used abrasive in the world. Try our aluminum oxide EconoblastTM! It's a special blend of white, pink, and brown aluminum oxides, as well as other abrasives that makes for a tougher and more economic choice in many applications. It performs as well as, if not better than, white aluminum oxide in most cases.
