Description: History of the 16th South Carolina Regiment from Greenville County, SC ----- Written by John S. Taylor ---------------------------------------------- Self-Published by the Author, for the Centennial, 1964 ---------------------------------------------- Softcover : Overall Very Good Clean inside and out. I had one other copy of this. I am 100% certain it was an original. The corners were rounded - it was made that way, not from wear. This copy has no other markings to indicate it is a reprint, and I can find no other listings than the original from 1964. But - the corners are square, not rounded. So, I am not 100% sure it is actually from 1964. But, it is exactly the same page count and content as the copy I sold a while back on eBay. The other copy (only one I could find) I noted at the bottom of the listing is still for sale thru Amazon ...52 pages, with rosters ================================ Not much out there on the 16th S.C. There is a book out there by John Rigdon, but I have seen many poor reviews of his books. Many people claim that his books are simply poorly edited collections of open source online information from sites like Wikipedia. As the "author" of over 1,100 "Historical Sketch and Roster" books thru his website, one has to wonder about the actual quality of the work ... --------------------------------------- John Taylor was the Chairman of the Greenville County Confederate Centennial Commission From the Foreword In the Fall of 1962 I became interested in the 16th S.C. Regiment CSA raised in Greenville District and decided to prepare a Historical Sketch of this Regiment as one of the projects of the Greenville County Confederate Centennial Commission. At the time I knew nothing of the 16th S.C. Regiment, nor was I able to contact at that time anyone who did; however, after a year of research it has been my good fortune to contact various people who have assisted me in this research. Notes from another book on the 16th SC The 16th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry (also known as the Greenville Regiment and the Greenville Boys) recruited its men in Greenville County. It was organized and mustered into Confederate service in December, 1861. The regiment moved to Charleston and for a time was stationed at Adams Run under General Hagood. During December, 1862, the unit was ordered to Wilmington, North Carolina and in May, 1863, to Jackson, Mississippi where it was assigned to General Gist's Brigade in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. Later the 16th Regiment joined the Army of Tennessee. On April 9, 1865 the 16th consolidated with the 24th Infantry regiment to form the Consolidated 16th and 24th Infantry Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers. This consolidated unit surrendered on April 26, 1865 with the Army of Tennessee.
