Description: SKOOKUM NATIVE AMERICAN ANTIQUE/VINTAGE 14" H DOLL w/Papoose Late 1920s-30s Collectible (A4) Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This listing is for a nice Antique/Vintage Skookum Native American Doll with a Papoose on her back. They appear to be from the late 1920s - 1930s. The set is in fairly good condition for being vintage. Mother has a dark red complexion with her eyes looking to the right. Eyes looking to the right signifies “Good Health”. The name Skookum is also noted to represent “Strong”. Mother does not have arms purposely to have a tight fit for her blanket. Her blanket appears to be hand sewn and made with a thin flannel with geometric Indian prints. Her blanket hems are raw. Her long skirt is green with yellow octagon figures shaped with either stars or flowers. Her blouse is white with tiny red geometric patterns or floral designs in a subdued tone. Pattern may even be little leaves on a limb, just not sure. She appears to be wearing long green and white beads on her ears, but not able to see her ears as her hair has been glued(?) over her ears. The doll appears to have wood dowels for her legs. Her shoes appear to be wood also but unable to tell as there is what appears to be paper covering the shoes and then painted with some type of design in two different pale colors. In researching this Skookum doll, many have said you might be able to identify the age by looking at the base of their neck or by her shoes. The blouse at the back of her neck has been glued(?) and the bottom of her shoes are plain with no markings. So these suggestions did not help to identify her age. Her hair appears to be in fair condition with what may have been two black braids. One side of her hair there appears to be one braid wrapped up to see the papoose. The other side has what appears to be a braid that has been un-braided and worn loose. Some of her hair seems to be coming detached from a black like netting. Hair appears to be mohair. It has been noted that in time, the hair with the older dolls can start to become unattached. You can see there is a small area on the back of her hair where her hair has become unattached. Baby papoose has a green head band. Papoose’s complexion is also a deeper red like his mother and looks to the right also. Baby has white netting around his head and appears to not be removable from the blanket. This is a nice antique/vintage set to see some history of the Skookum Native American Doll.
