Many Radio Kings where made with the 3-Ply Philippine Mahogany shell. Slingerland experimented with laminated and wood variations only for a brief period. Solid 1-ply maple shells were interchanged at the factory. This drum is sporting the single flanged Nickel over brass rims. The very desirable Radio King stamped Engraving is equipped on the top rim. All other hardware is also Nickel Plated as well. The Lugs are the Beautifully Crafted new “Sound King“ design introduced in 1955. All lugs are very solid. No cracks or fatigue with easy tensioning and fine tuning. The throw-off is the desirable 3-Point Strainer that works and functions beautifully! This design incorporated a collapsible handle that is adjusted with a knurled knob. This allows the player to adjust height and breakdown to store in a case. A very nice Slingerland simple design Butt Plate, functions perfectly. No factory muffler is installed. After Market snare wires are installed. This Drum has that great Radio King sound, wonderful dynamic response, with great warm tonality. The snare response is awesome, capturing stick articulation and sensitivity.
