Description: Paul St John, Mohawk artist has made small elk hide medicine pouches, dyed dark brown. These are to be worn around the neck or tied onto a belt (or your backpack, pocketbook etc) There is an antique French brass bead used for the closure for the bags' flap. (He has made a few similar bags recently - of moose hide and of suede deer hide. The different hides make for different textures and color - interested? Check them out in this eBay store, search for "medicine bag" or "bag Paul St John")This like all of Paul's medicine bags has been hand-cut and hand-sewn (so there are slight differences in the size of these little medicine bags.) He made 3 elk hide bag, they are of a dark brown dyed color and are quite supple. With the flap closed these bags are about 3" to 3.5" long, the width at top of bag (not flap) is 2.5" and 2 of the straps are 16" long from top side of bag at it's attachment point to center back of strap - One of the straps is 20" long. (you could tie a knot at top to shorten it). The flap is 1.75" - 2" long and closes over the top front of the bag. SHOULD you want the long strap ... Please when you purchase a bag "leave seller a note" asking for the long strap bag!..---- when that bag sells (if it sells before others) I will remove the note here and revise the strap length to reflect only the length of other 2 strapsWabanaki & Iroquois traditionally made and used various types of bags, medicine bags and shoulder bags, of varying styles, sizes, materials and designs. You can use this as part of your regalia, wear it around your neck under or over your shirt/blouse with traditional herbal or current medication - or money or whatever you like --- Or use it as a display piece.
