Similar boxes have been carved and used for centuries to amuse both children and adults: simply ask an unsuspecting friend or relative to slide open the lid of the miniature sarcophagus and the snake pops out to "bite" them !Constructed of a hand-carved stone box and lid, with a hand-carved black snake attached to the lid with a string. GAUDIN (1938-2011) WHO, IN TURN, OBTAINED IT DIRECTLY FROM A KALAHARI KUNG BUSHMAN. It had been in use, probably years or decades before, and is still in used but working condition. Purchased on a business trip to South Africa in the 1980s with a large selection of other African artifacts, it's been stored in our factory ever since, and is still in the same working condition.
