Description: My late sister Betsy sold redware pottery at her Pittsburgh crafts and collectibles shop and, when it closed, she stored her favorite but unsold items in niches all around her apartment where I found them after her unexpected passing. This bowl was one of them. I know very little about pottery, but I know enough to say that this was made by an accomplished artist. The even and gentle spreading out of the walls, the different colored surface and walls, the challenging designs, the nice, thick rim. And yet, s/he neither signed nor dated this wonderful piece, unless the signature is hidden somewhere (I've been over the entire bowl with a magnifying glass!). If I'd made it, I'd be showing it to everyone. (I guess I am!) As noted in "Condition" above, though this plate has been in storage virtually its entire existence, the glaze has crazed (if that's the right term). I'm not defensive, nor am I trying to "praise the craze". But this is a post-lead piece and I suspect if you had the plate up close like I do, you might agree that the craze does not detract from the design at all. You've got all the details.
