Object: This auction is for a Mara of Mexico fine art stoneware 12" bowl titled "Desert." Can be use as a centerpiece, "pasta" or vegetable serving bowl, or displayed as a beautiful work of art. The incised and tactile hand painted design in the center is a sun-face. The wide rim has alternating incised and hand painted cacti, owls, stars, and half-moons. Artist/Studio: Mara Fine Art Stoneware. Mara ( -2007) studied internationally with well-known painters and sculptors in London and Italy and had numerous expositions of her original stoneware pieces in Europe, the United States and Mexico. She used fine handcrafted engraved lines, simplification and blended shapes to give life to her designs that fluctuate between realism and abstraction. Ceramica Mara has always been an extended family operation, and production of her designs, many still unproduced, has continued since her passing. Their glazes are unique for their quality, color, and durability. Each piece is hand engraved and hand painted, then fired twice at high temperatures for durability. No two will ever be exactly alike. All Mara stoneware items are lead-free glazed inside and out and are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. Pattern: "Desert" Color: Variegated and finely speckled gold-ocher top and dark brown underside with designs in white, dark brown, gray ocher, tan and maroon. Colors are richer and warmer than photos show. Material: Stoneware pottery Surface: Semi-gloss; tactile, incised designs Technique: Studio produced, wheel turned, hand incised and hand painted. No two Mara pieces are ever the exact same. Features: Lead free; food, dishwasher and microwave safe; large size, 12" diameter; heavy, thick walled; tactile, incised designs; unglazed foot rim; hand painted; hand signed by studio artist; designed by Mara. Condition: Very good pre-owned used condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. There is some shelf wear to the unglazed foot rim and very little surface wear, if any. Any irregularities in glaze, shape or color, any fleabites, etc. would be from the handmade process and not damage of any kind. Most of our items are estate finds and are in good to excellent used condition. Vintage, pre-owned items will not usually be in mint condition, but may show signs of age, use, or wear from being pre-owned and loved for many years.
