Description: The Family Name by Jan Washburn; Whitman HC; 1971; good condition. A truly substantive YA novel "for girls." Jan Washburn, wife of a swim coach and mother to three competitive swimmers, writes about Ryndy Drews, who turns to swimming as part of her rehabilitation after an accident and discovers a new passion. A fun read. This Whitman hardcover is in good condition, with flaws. Unlike Whitman editions from earlier in the 70s and 60s, this edition's covers are matte painted with no glossy veneer. (Which is good, because that glossy veneer nearly always cracks and peels.) The exterior is in very good shape with slight-to-moderate edge wear including bumping of the bottom corners. The biggest flaw is that the front endpapers are completely separated, though the cover is still intact as both the webbing and glue are still holding. If I were buying this book I would repair this damage with some acid-free book tape, but I'll leave that to you. The pages are mildly tanned, primarily at their outer edges, and the page ends are also tan. These Whitman editions used inexpensive paper stock so this is pretty typical. The interior is otherwise clean and unmarked. There is also a contemporaneous price tag affixed to the back of the book. It looks like it'd come off pretty easily, but I personally like these kinds of artifacts, so I'm leaving it in place for a buyer to do with it what they will. All books are individually evaluated and photos are of the actual book.
