Description: The Master DetectiveAugust 1932 Cover story is a 13-page in depth article about the brief bloody career and capture of bank robber and cop killer Francis "Two Gun" Crowley. In late April 1931 Crowley and two accomplices were spotted at a former girlfriend's apartment. The building was surrounded by hundreds of NYC police armed with rifles, machine guns, and tear gas. Crowley finally surrendered after a two hour gun battle during which police fired some 700 rounds and the outlaw was hit four times. Several thousand bystanders witnessed the event. He was tried and convicted for the murder of a police officer and executed in January 1932 at the age of nineteen. (This story is not affected by the missing parts of the magazine's final page.)
