Description: Brilliant 1996 treasure from one of the best and most unique bands to come from the New Zealand / Flying Nun scene, The Renderers. How to describe this deeply haunting, atmospheric and captivating music? At times it is a bit psychedelic, sometimes teetering on the unhinged, sometimes very beautiful, often dark. There's a lost at sea feel to much of their music, perhaps a hallucinatory feel, but there is also so much heart in there as well. Mary Rose possesses one of those voices that reels you in and keeps you in it's grip (her art has the same qualities) and Brian Crook (also of The Terminals) creates soundscapes with his playing that are outside of any sort of box. At this point the band also included Robbie Yeats of early Verlaines, The Dead C. and more. On the Ajax label, probably out of print (but I cannot say for sure).
