S. George Fine China commissioned Charles to do the artwork for a series of nautical plates entitled Golden Age of Clipper Ships. These plates were produced in the 1990s as a eight piece limited edition set and retailed for over $35 each. The Twilight plate was number one. The story of the clipper ship Twilight is well documented. Launched from Mystic, Connecticut in October 1857, she headed from New York for San Francisco. She made four runs to the West Coast. The Twilight was sold to Peruvian merchants in 1863 sailing for them until 1877.
