Theo Tobiasse (1927-2012) Framed Carborundum Print Bellerophon XIV/XXV Signed

Description: The item for sale is a large framed modernist print that was created around 1980 in France by the artist Theodore Tobiasse. The print is made by an unusual etching technique similar to mezzotint using carborundum. Several colors of ink were used. The paper is very heavy, handmade and highly textured including depressions in the surface. The title of the print, Bellerophon is embossed into the paper along the bottom. The edges of the sheet are rough. The subject of the print is a character from Greek mythology. The artist signed the print in the lower right and wrote the title in pencil below the main figure. The print is numbered XIV from a deluxe Roman numeral numbered edition of XXV. The print is floating inside the mat rather than the edges being covered by the mat. The artwork was previously owned. The condition is essentially pristine. The inks appear to retain their original intensity and saturation of color. The sheet is clean. There is no evidence of sunlight exposure nor environmental damage. The frame is in excellent condition without damage and a nearly intact gold finish. The sheet size is 20" x 27".
