I don't use any chemicals in my garden (not even bug spray - so I don't harm any bees, butterflies or hummingbirds). Here is some info I found online about planting butterfly seeds: Fall is the best time to plant. The seeds need to be outside. They are a WILD flower. They generally will not sprout indoors. The best way of planting them is to place them on the ground in the Fall. Cover them with a thin layer of mulch. Seeds will rest, and not germinate until Spring. Butterfly weed is notoriously stubborn, sometimes coming up as late as July! Store seeds in cool place like in the fridge
