Description: This may be the first one of these very, very rare toys to appear on eBay. I can find prior national auction sales of only 3 others. Only a few of these diminutive toys (3 1/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch) were made by Lehmann in Germany from 1896-1899, and they were designated as EPL 406. Notice the company logo that appears on the bottom--the very first version of the company logo that appears on only a handful of Lehmann toys. This toy came out right after the invention of the xray machine. You hold the toy facing a light and look through the peep hole. Then you slide a coin in between the two halves of the toy fully expecting the light to be blocked. But it isn't , and it appears you are looking right through the coin with x-ray vision. It has a large "X" embossed on the metal top of each half of the toy and then several metal wires coiled around the toy as if they were electric wires. If you want to learn how the toy creates this illusion you can put this in your browser: "rare Lehmann x-ray toy" and you can read more about these and also see more pictures of this specific example of the toy that is for sale in this listing. Bid with confidence as I have been selling quality Lehmann toys on eBay since 1998. No hassle return for any reason.
