Description: Original Historical HQ Photo (read below) "Uncle Jimmie" (as it appears on Columbia and Vocalion 78s) Thompson Stamped on back dated Jan 21 1926 Elbrick Studio Nashville TN (Stamped Front Right Bottom) Origin of the Photo: This was taken 2 days after he won the Tennessee State Fiddling Contest on the evening of Jan 19 1926, and less than 2 monthsafter he became the first ever musical performer on the very firstbroadcast of the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 78. (Although the back of the photo indicates he's 83. Could be either, or neither! Sketchy records in those days!) After playing requests for an hour that night, he was asked if he'd had enough. Thompson famously quipped: "A Man Don't Get Warmed Up in an Hour!" A statement which carries special weight considering in 1907 at age 59 he won an EIGHT DAY fiddling contest in Dallas. Imagine... T for Texas, T for Tennessee Born in Tennessee 1848, moved to Texas 1860, back to Tennessee in the 1880's, back to Texas about 20 years later, and backto Tennesse after about 1906. After he felt he was too old to farm, he loaded up with his wife and started on the road, playing fiddle wherever he could find work. Condition There are some dings and creases and a dog earbottom right corner that is BARELY still attached (should be aware it could come apart during packing/shipping but I'll do my best) but the quality of the image itself is incredible, a stunning high quality originallooking straight into the eyes of a TRUE Pioneer of Country Music. Amazing Historical Piece of Americana Culture. Here's the photo of him getting ready to kick off the 1st ever Grand Ole Opry (not included) No matter the price or number, records are always packed with extreme care. As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed). N-. Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage. E+. Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets. E . Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches. E-. Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches. V+. An average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced V. Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive. V-. Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages.Music remains loud in most passages.Surface noise and scratches well below music level. G+. Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches. G. Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise. G-. Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive. F. Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable. P. Unplayable
