Description: "Under the Banyan Tree" TriptychMulti Media Acrylic on Canvas Overall Measurement: 30" x 40"This triptych, entitled "Under the Banyan Tree", consists of three original relief paintings, each measuring 10"x 20" and 5/8 " deep. It's reminiscent of an old Banyan tree and the knotted, gnarled branches and roots symbolize to me the twists and turns that life takes sometimes. "Under the Banyan Tree" is a place for reflection, where the past and the present come together and it feels like time here stands still. Rest for a moment in the cool shade of the tree and feel the warm energy and peace it offers... The Banyan tree, with it’s roots strongly planted in the earth, symbolize stability, strength and being firmly grounded. It also represents individuality, initiative and entrepreneurship by the way it extends aerial roots to form new trunks to support itself in order grow wider and stronger. It offers comfort, shade, peace and welcome as well as a bit of mystery and enchantment. A bit like out of a fairy tale, these trees with their giant buttresses and pendulous vines have witnessed history as it unfolds around the globe. The Buddha felt his calling for enlightenment under the Banyan tree. In India, business meetings are held and traders meet under these trees and recently in Malaysia, the State Assembly met in the shade of a Banyan tree.In Hawaii the Banyan tree has been a landmark across the State. The largest Banyan Tree can be found in Lahaina on Maui. Planted in 1873, it is over 40 feet tall and spans an entire town block. On Oahu, the International Marketplace shopping mall was built around the Banyan tree to preserve the area’s main feature. The world renowned radio show, "Hawaii Calls" was broadcasted from under the Banyan tree at the Ala Moana Surfrider Hotel. Banyan Tree Drive in Hilo features Banyan trees planted by historical figures visiting the area. There are plaques beneath each tree with the name of the person who planted the tree. Among the celebrities are Franklin D Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Amelia Erhardt and Louis Armstrong. One of the little joys in life is sitting under a Banyan tree - sans cell phone and all the distractions of every day life. What if we could do business and hold meetings too in a place closer to nature… perhaps inspiration would flow more freely and we would make more eye contact and conversations would be more authentic and meaningful. Perhaps the outcome of our actions and decision making would preserve and reflect more of nature itself. The paintings have a lightly textured background, in shades of metallic copper, antique bronze, gold and verdigris blues and greens and the tree relief features different shades of gold to create a 3D effect. The triptych is mounted on a 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas which has been covered with black textured fabric which adds striking depth and beautiful interest to this piece. The overall measurement is 30" x 40". Hand made and painted in my studio on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Comes ready to hang with picture wire mounted in the back. Artist signed and dated on the back. This is one of my personal favorite pieces. Add a distinctive Hawaiian theme and tropical touch to your home with this original, meaningful piece. The earthy tones go with just about any color scheme and the metallic colors add a bright contemporary feel. Mahalo visiting for appreciating my art.
