Description: This listing is for a Vintage 1940s Japanese 970 Sterling Silver & Cloisonne Box. Included in the box is a personal letter from T. Inumaru, the president of the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, dated February 5, 1949, to Lt. E.M. Power, gifting him this box as a souvenir of his many years in Japan (as he is preparing to depart back to the United States). Mr. Inumaru mentions in the letter that he has also "taken the liberty to engrave [Lt. Power's] signature" on the front of the box, which he "found in one of my autograph albums." The box measures approximately 5" wide x 3-1/2" deep x 1-1/2" tall, and weighs 290 grams. The sides and top of the box are silver and are marked "SILVER 970." The underside of the box is made of wood (possibly ebony?). Excellent vintage condition WITH THE EXCEPTION of the one missing cloisonne tile (see photos). Silver has not been polished.
